This Past Weekend in Ansan

This past weekend I went south to a city called Ansan.  It has a campus of Hanyang University, which produces a lot of Engineers.  Unfortunately, the job market for recent graduates in Korea is not so great.

It seems like in Korea there are a lot more small businesses.  When I first arrived in Ansan, I went with Brother Testimony Kim to pick up some duck from another brother's business (he distributes organic duck).  Then Testimony's wife made some delicious spicy duck meat.

It seems like Hanyang must be a selective University because the students could carry a conversation.  I found out that going to an English Speaking HS in Korea is one of the ways that they get into the selective universities.

The students were able to eat first at the meeting which is contrary to the tradition of having the oldest person eat first, but at the meeting many of the ethnic formalities are not observed.  One thing that was kind of strange, but normal for Koreans, is after the meeting the brothers went to the public bath together.

We stayed there for about 2 hours.  After watching part of game six of the Korean world series in the spa, we played a game called Catan, and I actually ended up winning.  Then Testimony joked that he would beat me once we returned to his apartment.  He is prettu good at the game because it involves managing resources, and he own his own placement firm.

Then I went to a Korean wedding at the Four Seasons.  The Korean weddings are pretty different though.  Instead of watching the ceremony, for this one I just went and sat in the grooms side and saw pictures of them while having a nice buffet.  I have to run to a swine flu meeting.  While I was typing my teacher told me classes are cancelled for the rest of the week.  At least 10 kids were found to have H1N1 at my school.  All the kids are having their temperatures taken (to be continued)
