One interesting thing about living in a foreign country is getting days off for things which aren't significant to you. This month I had a couple of these days. May fifth was Children's Day, and today is Buddha's Birthday. Unfortunately, I didn't know far enough in advance to make any plans. I had heard that a couple of people were planning to go to Busan early this morning for a big festival down there, but I thought maybe they had some special circumstance.
So I found out a little too late so all I did was I went to see a punk rock group called the Rubber Duckies after I finished a language sharing session in a cafe nearby the performance. The group is made of three Korean girls, so I immediately thought that it was just some kind of a gimmick to get guys to come and stare at them. But they were booked again and again, so this time I was curious to see if they were actually talented.
As usual, the band wasn't even there when they were supposed to start playing, but eventually they decided to show up, and started playing roughly a half an hour late. They played a lot of cover songs and they made the instrumental playing look easy, but their poor English, made all of their songs sound awful. It was still kind of fun to watch them do something pretty difficult, performing music in a second language. The funny thing was that only one person said that they were talented, and she was a woman. Everybody else said that their music was terrible.
At one point during the performance, the bassist said something ridiculously cheesy. She said "If you think we are pretty, then buy our album." I guess she knows she cannot sell her albums just with the music on the CD. Too bad for them, they are not as pretty as they try to market themselves to be.

In between their sets I didn't even see anybody trying to talk to them. Even though they are not that great looking in real life I'm surprised that nobody approached them.
Real Life
They did have a decent cover of a classic American punk song though.
