Low Attendance at English Camp

No rooftop parties on my rooftop tonight.  I hope the snow stays for a while.

The mom owns a flower shop across from my friend's kebab shop.  Her 7 year old daughter, Oon-say, is giving her a massage.  I am pretty sure she works long hours in order to keep the store open and make the flower arrangements. The shop where they are sitting is a Kimbap (Korean style sushi) shop and it is next to my friends shop.  His looks very similar.

The reason why I had to come back to Korea was to teach an English camp at my school, but the attendance is really low.  On the first day of  the low level class, only one student showed up, so he and I had to play a game together, which worked out okay because it turned out to be a challenging activity for a low level student.  Today I had about sixteen students total show up for all three classes.  There were supposed to be 4  classes, but I found out that the Tae Kwon Do classes are canceled because they are having a conditioning exercise.  You might think that school is for academics but for these guys there goal is to become the next gold medalist to graduate from Puin Middle School.

I think the parents are keeping the kids out of school for a variety of reasons.  1st I think it is because they are afraid that the kids will get swine flu.  2nd is that Korea is also having an economic downturn and I think the parents have to pay extra for the English camp.  3rd is that Seoul had its worst snow storm in 70 years last week so maybe the parents don't want their kids to have to go to school in the snow.  I don't mind the small class sizes though.

I tried my hand at Korean cooking, and it turned out well mainly because it was a simple yet delicious Kimchi stew recipe.  If you want to eat some spam, you can cook this with spam.  I ended up eating kimchi jigae 4 times in the last 7 days.  Then someone from my work, who's nickname is Parky, gave me a few bags of old kimchi, which will be perfect for making kimchi jigae.  I really owe him now.
